If We Ruled the World

image

Things would be verydifferent…

But as I wake from my reverie, I am warmed by the news that a woman will direct the secret service. WOAH!!!!

And she needs no confirmation. Julia Pierson previously served as Sullivan’s chief of staff and has 30 years of experience. Perhaps she can address some issues that seem to have plagued the agency for years.

Now steer clear of the male escorts…

Guns: Senate Vote Today

image

I don’t get the point of legislation that would not include a ban on assault weapons. Meanwhile the Mayors Against Gun Violence launch a $12 million campaign hoping someone will notice.

REALLY?!???

I mean, I understand “baby steps” and I hear Feinstein talking about getting it on record even if that portion fails, but what will a gun control law change if it’s not controlling guns? Decreased magazine size, more dollars for school security, etc. But really?

I remain disgusted…

Crossing Into Good Health

image

Adrian Dantley, former NBA player and Hall of Famer, gives high fives to the kids as he helps them cross the street to school. That’s right, he’s a crossing guard in Silver Spring, MD.

Nope. He doesn’t need the money…it’s the health benefits.

DAMN.

Oh, I Get It…

image

I remember years ago Native Americans attempted to get the Washington Redskins to change its name…and it didn’t work. Well a federal trademark court just heard arguments this past week, let’s see what happens.

In 1992, fans lost their mind about changing the name. I will say, as a native Washingtonian, DC stands by its team. But this is wrong. Has anybody tried see it from a Native American perspective? Redskin is like nigger, spic, slanty eye or any of the other hateful names used to describe someone who’s different…is it a big deal now? I get it- it’s about money and merchandising and “what will we do with all the Redskin shit?!” But it should be about more. I read a blog comment that described the situation as the “Fedex Trail of Tears.”

Papal Cheat Sheet

image

I was raised and baptized into Catholicism, but have not been a practicing Catholic in over 20 years, for many reasons. However, I can not help but raise an eyebrow when Catholicism makes the news which, in the last decade, has been too often. With a Papal resignation, the world is buzzing about succession. Who will be the next Pope?

I honestly have not dedicated much time to this event, but am curious. My number one question is what was their stance regarding the rampid pedaphilia that scandalized the faith…I’m hopeful others are interested as well…

With that said, a quick and dirty summation.
• There are three men of color which surprised me (Nigeria, Ghana, Sri Lanka).
• Three candidates have the capacity to bridge the chasm between Islam and westetn faiths (which I think is kinda critical).
• One could potentially reach younger generations with his penchant for tweeting and pop culture knowledge.
• A few have global appeal which is key for future growth.

Just my thoughts. What are yours?

Sequestration 101

A breakdown of four widely-held myths regarding the sequester.

Bottom line: Congress didn’t do its job and this could still be avoided. Did you contact your representatives?
