I remember years ago Native Americans attempted to get the Washington Redskins to change its name…and it didn’t work. Well a federal trademark court just heard arguments this past week, let’s see what happens.
In 1992, fans lost their mind about changing the name. I will say, as a native Washingtonian, DC stands by its team. But this is wrong. Has anybody tried see it from a Native American perspective? Redskin is like nigger, spic, slanty eye or any of the other hateful names used to describe someone who’s different…is it a big deal now? I get it- it’s about money and merchandising and “what will we do with all the Redskin shit?!” But it should be about more. I read a blog comment that described the situation as the “Fedex Trail of Tears.”
