The Face of Terrorism

Last night, my significant other broke my rule. See, he’s in the states right now and is subject to all that entails, especially the violence and hatred. What did he do? Told me about the news.

Here in CR, I don’t have to see or hear US news. Moreover, I stopped watching the news almost 20 years ago; it was not good for my sanity. If and when I wanted news, I sought it out from foreign outlets.

Now, back to the rule-breaker. I didn’t stop him because I could tell he was feeling overwhelmed. First, he told me about a shooting and stand-off situation in DC when police were helping to execute a warrant (may not be the right term) for animal abuse. Three police were shot, not fatally, and the suspect barricaded himself inside. Later, they found about 40 dogs.

But the focus of his news report was Kansas City. What happened? Of course. A mass shooting… during the Superbowl winners’ parade and celebration.

Why?!!? You know what? It doesn’t matter because sane people won’t understand. People are not safe in public. Not in school. Not in church. Not in the mall. Not in salons…. But what really upset him, beyond the obvious, were the newcaster’s final words for the news story.

“Authorities said that this was not the act of terrorists.”

I’ll let that sink in….
