That is the question….

I just learned this term within the last month or two, with regard to the book world. In my research and deep-dive as a new author, I’ve been learning all kinds of new nuggets!
As a voracious reader, there have been titles that I have not finished. Now, supposedly, this term does not mean that you didn’t like the book, simply that you did not finish it. That’s not what I’ve experienced in this world of book influencers, Booktok and Bookstagram. When they DNF a book, it is because they did not enjoy it.
I can concur that I don’t finish reading a title because I’m not feeling it (this has included popular books that have big budgets and huge backing). I would never publicly DNF those titles. As an author, I know what goes into writing a book, and I don’t have the heart to do that. I prefer to believe that I was not the intended audience. As a reader, I simply find my next title.
Now, if I had the opportunity AND an author asked, I would be honest, in private. I believe we need to provide that feedback and I’m such a writing nerd that I would want to give a detailed breakdown.
However, I guess for those with a following who look to them for recommendations, it is an issue of integrity. It just makes me cringe when I see it.🤷🏽♀️
